Mumbai reps attend CCBI Youth Conference

The first Indian Catholic Youth Conference, organised by the CCBI Youth Commission, kicked off October 21, 2018. Over 500 young delegates, from 132 Latin-rite dioceses, took part in the Conference (October 21-25 at New Delhi).

TeamNYC#Delhi, comprising Ms Jessica Alphonsa, Mr Raphael Colaco, Ms Berlinda Borges, Mr Nigel Mendonsa and Mr Ryan Pereira, accompanied by Deacon Ivan Fernandes and Sr Queenie Anna Fernandes FHIC, enthusiastically participated in the Conference held at Shofar Conference Centre, Gurugram, New Delhi, in harmony with the Synod of Bishops being held in Rome. The Theme: "Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment."

Archbishop Emeritus Vincent Concessao of New Delhi celebrated the inaugural Eucharist and declared the Conference open. He urged the young people to be at the service of the Church in carrying forward the mission of Christ, of building the kingdom of love and peace.

A video message from Pope Francis was presented to the young Indians gathered at the assembly, which urged the youth to: "Make your lives fruitful for the benefit of all. Do not forget that youth is a wealth that bears fruit. You have the future and the present is in your hands. Go forth. Do not be discouraged."

The participating youth were involved in group discussions and activities in order to stimulate active participation and their contribution. Efforts were pooled in to understand the realities of youth and help the young leaders use this opportunity to voice their opinions and address their concerns with regard to their faith and their purpose in life.

The participants were engaged in workshops through which they could seek answers to several concerns and to face the challenges related to faith and their vocational discernment. The workshops were guided by expert Resource Persons. Deacon Ivan Fernandes conducted a session on 'Relationships' for the entire group that engaged all present.

Cultural evenings lifted the spirits of the young people who exhibited their talents through music and dance. The Conference was interspersed with meaningful liturgical services, Eucharistic Adoration and the Taizé experience.

The Conference concluded with the 'Award Nite' function to recognise youth achievers from the 14 regions of India, for their contribution to Youth Ministry, Church, and society.

In Appreciation of The Sahar Beacons

It is always a rich experience, a joy and a privilege to listen to the Sahar Beacons. At a Marian Recital on Sunday, October 7, the hymns chosen spanned the entire life of Mary from the Annunciation to her Coronation in Heaven. The alternation of choral and solo singing made for a happy variety and pleasant listening. As usuaI, the choruses were robust and lively, whereas the solos, by specially chosen singers, were beautifully rendered.

The combination of singing, commentary and visual effects had a holistic impact on those present and made for a praiseworthy effort at evangelization. At the end of the concert, the choir was given a standing ovation.

The Annual IMFE Alumni gathering

The Annual IMFE Alumni gathering was held on October 18 at Salvation Kendra Hall, Dadar. A unique prayer service was followed by an icebreaker that helped those attending (from across 19 batches – 1999 to 2018) to connect with one another. Fr Felix D'Souza, OLCM Director, conducted a session that helped the participants identify their key attitudes and challenges to be effective in their work in Church. His humorous style and insightful comments helped the group identify new ways to be effective. The games that followed aimed at better bonding, while challenging the participants to create a collaborative system. The fellowship over lunch helped the group work out strategies to be more effective in their spheres of influence.
