"We are the Church of Hope!"

Sir, A special pre-synod meeting of youth took place March 19-24, 2018. It drew 300 representatives from around the world to discuss key themes ahead of October's Synod of Bishops - "Young People, Faith and Discernment of Vocation."

A 22-year-old Chaldean Catholic refugee in Australia, Angela Markas, commented: "To move forward, we need to be brave in addressing topics like same-sex marriage, euthanasia, and the role of women's empowerment! We are a Church of hope! We are the witnesses of the Resurrection! So we have this surety, that this will all heal; but we need to work towards it. Pope Francis is so intimate, in that he always addresses the littleness and the smallness of the youth!"

Papal visit to India

Sir, The eagerly awaited meeting between Cardinal Oswald Gracias and PM Narendra Modi went off reasonably well. Cardinal Oswald Gracias, President of the CBCI and President of the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences told the Prime Minister about the great love and acceptance of the Pope among the people in the world and India, and how having him in India would benefit the country. Cardinal Oswald also reminded the PM of the Church's contribution in the fields of education, health and social issues, and drew his attention to the situation facing minority communities in India. PM Modi listened attentively. He responded very positively and said: "I'm the Prime Minister for all Indians, irrespective of caste and creed, and if there is any issue, you can come directly to me, and we can look at it."

S/Heroes of India

Sir, Kudos to Fr Magi Murzello and his novel project—the Bandra She-Link Project (The Examiner, March 24-30, 2018). Fr Magi always comes up with something unique and meaningful. I would like to add one more CONNECT: the first Causeway at Bandra-Mahim because of three S/HEROES – the blessings of Our Lady of the Mount made manifest through the faith of Dona Margarida for a favour granted to Lady Avabai and Sir Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy. Lady Avabai even sold some of her own jewellery to construct the Bandra-Mahim Causeway in 1845. (Correa 2004:19, Karanjia, 1998:35)

Protect Mangroves

Sir, Coastlines throughout the world are facing serious problems of coastal erosion and threat of rising sea levels due to global warming. To control such assault of the sea, Nature has provided mangroves as buffers between the land and the sea to protect the land from erosion.
