Fr Naveen Lewis, SFX

Still shocked, as I pen down these words; it is still unbelievable! The entire Parish of Holy Cross, Juhu Tara, together with the Society of Pilar, is still shaken about the whole episode of the death of our dear Fr Naveen Lewis. A priest of God: so active, so involved, connected to all, dedicated, vibrant and fun loving; breathed his last on April 10, while still working.

Fr Naveen Lewis hails from Udyavar, Mangalore. He was born on June 24, 1968, to Donath P. Lewis and Rita Vaz. He was baptized on June 28, 1968, and received the Sacrament of Confirmation on June 24, 1979. He entered the Novitiate of the Society of the Missionaries of St Francis Xavier (Pilar Fathers) in 1988, and made his first commitment in the same Society on June 12, 1988. He completed his Philosophy and Theology and made his final profession to the Society on June 11, 1996. Fr Naveen was ordained a priest on May 5, 1997.

Fr Naveen was first appointed Assistant to the Parish Priest in Udyavar, Mangalore from 1997-1998. Thereafter, he did a year of language studies, and was appointed Director of Xavierian Pustokxaal from 1998-99. He was appointed Chaplain of Our Lady of Pilar Chapel, Sindoni, in the Missions of Dadra Nagar-Haveli, from January 2000 to June 2002. He was appointed Assistant to the Parish Priest of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Ambarnath, while working at Badlapur, from July 2002 to May 2004. He was appointed Parish Priest of Holy Cross Church, Juhu Tara, from May 2004 to June 2007.

Fr Naveen was appointed Parish Priest of Our Lady of the Sea Church, Nani Daman, from June 2008 to April 2010. He was appointed Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Church, Roha, from May 2010 to June 2013. In October 2012, he was appointed First Provincial Councillor of the Mumbai Province of the Society of Pilar.
