Foot overbridge collapse outside CST

Sir, We extend our condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the collapse of the bridge adjoining the iconic CSMT Railway Terminus. Regretfully, crumbling buildings, falling bridges, potholes, open drains, road fatalities, train accidents and airline crashes kill more people in our nation than wars and terrorist attacks. >>>

Sir, Human life seems to have no value in Mumbai. Politicians merely keep playing the same old tape — "Inquiry shall be initiated; strong action shall be taken..." Now voters need to teach effective lessons to these politicians.

The collapse of foot overbridges in Mumbai have become casual incidents now. In the past, when the British used to rule us, they constructed many bridges all over the country. They are in use even today after hundreds of years. Despite the absence of the advancement in technology that we have now, those bridges were built with near-perfection and accurate engineering.

Pope: Personal conversion needed to implement SDGs

Sir, On March 8, 2019, Pope Francis addressed Vatican officials, religious representatives, and members of international organisations participating in a March 07-09 event: "Religions and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – Listening to the Cry of the Earth and the Poor." The conference was hosted by the Dicastery for the Promotion of Integral Human Development and the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.

The SDGs are 17 global targets covering social and economic development, including poverty, hunger, education, energy and the environment. The SDGs were set by the UN General Assembly in 2015, as part of the '2030 Agenda'.

Some highlights from the Pope's speech:

Parent-Child Relationship

Sir, The relationship between parents and children has undergone a drastic change over the last few years. Parents are no longer the sole authority in a family. This change has certainly affected the way children interact with their parents. In fact, many of them have become disrespectful towards their parents. Since they repeat the same behaviour outside their home, it has a negative effect on society as well. There are several reasons behind this disturbing trend.

Cast your vote wisely

The time is coming shortly for us to cast our vote,
We must weigh each candidate and not do it by rote.
We may think that politics is not our cup of tea,
But we must go and cast our vote to protect liberty.
I don't think voting should be on caste, creed or religion.
We must elect those who have the interests of the nation.
The country has advanced in many fields, as we can see.

Election Euphoria 2019

Sir, The heat is on with the Lok Sabha elections 2019 just around the corner. Election fever is heating up, with the politicians trying their best in the mudslinging match. Attacks and counter-attacks are the order of the day. Serious allegations and accusations are also building up, and the public is getting too confused as to what exactly is the truth.

Politicians caught on the wrong foot are trying their best in diverting topics to gain momentum, and also up the ante to ensure that they get the complete attention of the general public. This time, a new crop of youngsters who are eligible to vote may make a difference, as they could be the deciding factor in many constituencies.
