Orlem Super-Cup 2019

The Lourdes Sports Committee (LSC), an association of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Orlem, Malad, organised the 6th edition of its annual Inter-Parish Football Tournament - 'Orlem Super-Cup' from January 2-12 on the church grounds.

This tournament was a knockout format. Teams from Dadar till Ambarnath on the central side and upto Vasai on the western side participated. There were 24 teams in the Men's open category (Youth) and 8 teams in the Men's Veterans category (40 years and above).

The matches were played after the evening Masses between 7.30 pm to 10.30 pm. Sports lovers and enthusiasts of all age groups—children, youth, elders and senior citizens—from various parishes had a great time, and were entertained with some nail-biting and hard fought matches. Mouth-watering snacks were sold by Enjoy - the canteen set up by Prayatna, the parish Community Centre.

On the day of the finals, there was a dance performance put up by the children. All the matches, including the finals, were played with a true spirit of sportsmanship. Our chief guest, Fr Oniel Rodrigues, gave away the prizes to the winners and the runners-up. St Gonsalo Garcia Parish, Vasai and Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Orlem were the winners and runners-up respectively in the Men's open category. St Vincent Palloti Parish, Andheri and St Anthony Parish, Malwani were the winners and runners-up in the Men's Veterans category respectively. An exhibition match was also played between teenage girls; the team of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Orlem won the same.

As all good things come to an end, so did the 11 days extravaganza. We thank our Spiritual Director, Fr Oniel Rodrigues and our Parish Priest, Fr Gilbert De Lima, for all the support and encouragement extended to make this event a great success.

Kudos to all the team members of the Lourdes Sports Committee (LSC) for their untiring efforts.
